- News2025-11-03

Toray Advanced Materials Korea (CEO Young-Seop Kim) announced that it has completed the expansion of its second PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide) production line with an annual capacity of 5,000 tons at the Gunsan Plant in the Saemangeum Industrial Complex. The completion ceremony took place on October 31.
Over 120 guests attended the event, including Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency Commissioner Kim Ui-geum, Governor of Jeonbuk State Kim Kwan-young, National Assembly Member Shin Young-dae, Gunsan City Vice Mayor Kim Young-min, Toray Industries Chairman Akihiro Nikkaku, and TAK CEO Young-Seop Kim.
Toray Advanced Materials Korea(TAK) was the first foreign-invested company to enter the Saemangeum region. In 2016, TAK established the world’s first fully integrated PPS production system - from raw materials to resin and compounds. With this latest expansion, TAK now operates Korea’s largest PPS manufacturing capacity, totaling 13,600 tons per year.
This expansion enables TAK to meet more effectively rising demand in automotive, electrical & electronics, and industrial markets. It also allows the company to strengthen its competitiveness in both domestic and global markets through new application development and optimized material solutions.
TAK has also increased its production of sodium hydrosulfide (NaSH), the main raw material for PPS, by 4,800 tons annually, further enhancing productivity and cost competitiveness.
"TAK will continue to contribute to the development of related industries and the growth of the regional economy by leveraging our technological expertise and the nation’s strongest PPS supply capability,” said Young-Seop Kim.
PPS is a high-performance engineering plastic offering excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, and electrical insulation properties. As a lightweight alternative to metal, its applications continue to expand - from automotive components to electrical and electronic devices, home appliances, industrial equipment, and housing facilities- making it an essential advanced material in numerous cutting-edge industries.
