Groundbreaking Ceremony for Carbon Fiber Unit 3 Expansion

Toray Advanced Materials Korea (President Jeon Hae-Sang) held a groundbreaking ceremony to expand carbon fiber unit 3 at its 4th plant in Gumi on October 23rd.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by about 200 people including Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Chul-woo, National Assembly member Koo Ja-geun, National Assembly member Kim Young-sik, Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Yang Byeong-nae, Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho, Chairman of Toray, Akihiro Nikkaku, President of Toray Mitsuo Ooya, Chairman of Toray Advanced Materials Korea (TAK) Lee Young-kwan, and President of Toray Advanced Materials Korea (TAK) Jeon Hae-sang.

Unit 3 is a new technology line incorporating a high degree of technological advancement. By supplying differentiated carbon fiber of the highest quality, TAK is expected to actively respond to market demands for high performance such as high-pressure hydrogen pressure vessels and urban air mobility.

TAK opened the era of mass production of carbon fiber for the first time in Korea by breaking ground on its first carbon fiber plant in 2011 and secured a total production capacity of 8,000 tons with the 3,300ton expansion of Unit 3.

"TAK will provide new value to our customers with the strongest technology and the best quality," said President Jeon Hae-sang in the speech.

He added, "Through close cooperation with companies in the front and rear, we will not only develop high-tech industries but also grow together with local communities and contribute to economic revitalization."
