TAK enters the battery separator business and expands the high-tech material business for electric vehicles


Toray Advanced Materials Korea (CEO Jeon Hae-Sang) signed a contract to acquire 70% stake in Toray Battery Separator Film Korea (Toray BSF Korea) and advances into the battery separator business.

Located in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Toray BSF Korea is the core production base and global leader in battery separators of Japan Toray, specializing in manufacturing separators. It has diverse product portfolio for electric vehicles, electronic devices, industrial use, and storage applications and supplies separators to domestic and foreign battery companies.

Toray Advanced Materials Korea (TAK) owns numbers of high-tech material businesses related to electric vehicles and next-generation mobility such as release film for MLCC, aramid for motor insulation paper, staple fiber for sound absorbing materials, PPS resin for thermal management modules, and carbon fiber of composite materials for weight reduction.

Through this acquisition, TAK plans to strengthen the value chain of the K-battery industry and expanding cooperation with customers by enhancing Korea Toray’s capabilities. Also, as demand for premium separators is expected to increase in the global electric vehicle market, TAK aims to lead the separator market based on world-class technology by actively responding to the needs of domestic and foreign customers and providing the optimal solutions.

Following the acquisition of the carbon fiber prepreg business in 2021 and of water treatment operation management business in March 2023, TAK has been expanded its business and focused on eco-friendly area through active M&As. At the same time, TAK is strengthening ESG management across all business areas, including carbon fiber, film, fiber, PPS, filter, and spunbond non-woven.
