Chairman Lee Young-kwan of Toray Advanced Materials Korea(TAK) donated about 10 million won in royalties from his memoir "Materials Are Competitive" to the Gyeongbuk Community Chest of Korea.
The donation was made to reflect on Chairman Lee's relationship with Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which has been a base for corporate management, and to express his gratitude to the community for its support and cooperation for the growth of the company.
Chairman Lee has been working for a company for more than 50 years, including joining Cheil Industries, the birthplace of TAK, in 1973, and becoming CEO of TAK in 1999, turning the deficit into a surplus company, and becoming chairman in 2013.
In particular, when TAK was founded, it has expanded its business from film and fiber-oriented business to high-value-added high-tech materials such as carbon fiber composites, PPS, water treatment filters, polyester films and IT materials, meta-aramid fibers, spunbond nonwoven, staple fiber and filament, contributing not only to the growth of the company but also to the development of Korea's material industry.
Chairman Lee said, "I hope it will be a hope and comfort to a society in need of help, even though it is a small amount of sincerity, and we will continue to fulfill our social responsibilities and realize the value of ESG management by practicing sharing for local communities."
Chairman Lee's 50 years of various field experiences and his memoir, "Materials are Competitive," which features the challenges and growth process of TAK, provides insights on the power of materials to change society and provides insights on enhancing the competitiveness of materials needed for the Korean industry.
