Toray Group Signs Strategic Joint Development Agreement (S-JDA) with Hyundai Motor Group

Toray Group signed Strategic Joint Development Agreement, S-JDA) with Hyundai Motor Group on October 24.

The signing ceremony was held at Hyundai Motor Group’s headquarters in Yang-jae, Seoul, and attended by Miki Terada, General Manager of Toray Group’s Composite Materials Division; Young-sub Kim, President of Toray Advanced Materials Korea (TAK); Heung-soo Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Global Strategy Office (GSO) at Hyundai Motor Group; and Seung-hyun Hong, Managing Director and Head of the Basic Materials Research Center, among other representatives from both companies.

Last year, Toray Group signed a Master Agreement with Hyundai Motor Group to jointly develop high-performance composite materials—such as carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP)—aimed at enhancing mobility performance and safety.

Through this new agreement, which further solidifies the partnership between the two companies, Toray and Hyundai plan to strengthen joint development of advanced materials and components for future mobility applications, including ▲high-performance vehicles, ▲lunar exploration rovers, and humanoid robots for special-purpose mobility.

Beyond technology development, the two companies will also collaborate across the entire value chain from production to commercialization to accelerate innovation in the future mobility industry and create new market opportunities.

Under the new collaboration framework, Toray Group will mobilize its group companies—Toray Advanced Materials Korea (TAK), TAC, and EACC—to develop intermediate materials and molded products based on Toray’s proprietary carbon fiber technology.

“Toray Group is committed to working with Hyundai Motor Group to create innovative composite material solutions essential for next-generation mobility, thereby strengthening our global competitiveness,” said Miki Terada, General Manager of Toray Group’s Composite Materials Division.

Young-sub Kim, President of Toray Advanced Materials Korea(TAK) added that "Leveraging our advanced materials technology, we will accelerate the realization of high-performance future mobility through joint development spanning research, production, and commercialization—and continue to lead the evolution of the mobility industry through strategic cooperation."
