2026 Toray Chemical Engineering Award

Toray Advanced Materials Korea (TAK) announced that Professor Kim Deok-jun of the School of Chemical Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University has been selected as the recipient of the 6th Toray Chemical Engineering Award.
The award ceremony was held on April 23 at the International Convention Center Jeju (ICC Jeju) during the Spring Annual Meeting of the Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Professor Kim was recognized for his outstanding research achievements, including the following:
◆ Development of hydrocarbon-based polymer electrolyte membranes with world-class performance for fuel cells and water electrolysis systems
◆ Development of solid electrolyte technologies to replace liquid electrolytes, contributing to the commercialization of next-generation high-capacity batteries such as lithium-sulfur and lithium-metal batteries
◆ Outstanding research performance, including 286 SCI-indexed publications and 53 registered patents (38 domestic and 15
international)
Upon receiving the award, Professor Kim said, “I am honored that my research has been recognized,” adding, “I will continue to strive to contribute to the advancement of this field.”
The Toray Chemical Engineering Award was established in 2021 to recognize individuals who have contributed to the advancement of chemical engineering and technology in Korea. Each year, the award is presented through the Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers (KIChE), along with a plaque and a prize of KRW 10 million.
